Noisette: Craft Lake City Holiday newsletter

Those great folks at Craft Lake City were so nice and asked if I could spare a yummy holiday recipe for their Holiday newsletter. I decided to go with an oldie but goody, the fudge brownie. My grandmother had this recipe for years and years (you know how it is) and I've been making them since I was 8 or 9. These brownies have lots of history. I remember eating half the pan by myself (er, should I have mentioned that?) and my best friend and I would make them almost every Sunday afternoon. It became the weekend ritual with us. Ooey gooey and oh so yummers, I mean yummy. Dig in!

Craft Lake Artist Workshop Series

Craft Lake City is happy to announce the first event in our Craft Lake Artist Workshop Series! Throughout the year, Craft Lake City will be hosting pop-up how-to nights at various locations featuring CLC Alumn. Artists will share a craft they love with us, then teach us how to make it as we follow along. Materials are provided, all you have to do is show up.

Join us Monday, December 12th for a night of crafts and fun.

Place: Garage on Beck (1199 North Beck St.)
Time: 7 p.m. - 9 p.m.
Fee: $5 Material Fee (The first 10 people that show up can craft for free!)

The workshop is open to anyone (21 and up), so bring friends for a night of good cheer, crafts and fun!

Holiday Treats

Megan Whittaker, CLC 2011 Food Artist, makes tasty treats that melt in your mouth. Treats so tasty your mouth starts watering just looking at them! She was sweet enough to send us her Grandma's Fudgy Brownie recipe, and we think these make a great holiday treat! Check out the recipe below and see for yourself!

My Grandma's Fudgy Brownies
From the kitchen of Megan Whittaker

3oz unsweetened chocolate

½ c unsalted butter

1 c sugar

2 eggs, beaten

½ c flour

¼ tsp salt

1 tsp vanilla

1 c chocolate chips

1 c nuts, optional

Melt chocolate and butter in a bowl. Add sugar and beat together with a wooden spoon until thoroughly mixed. Add beaten eggs, stir. Add flour and salt, stir. Add vanilla, nuts, chocolate chips. Pour into greased 8x8 pan (a 9x9 works well, too).Bake for about 20 minutes at 325 degrees.

Variations:

Mix in 1/3 cup chocolate chips, 1/3 cup white chocolate chips, and 1/3 c butterscotch chips. Heat it up and put some vanilla bean or chocolate ice cream on it! A classic that never fails.

First Friday

Tonight at 7 p.m.! The Salt Lake Art Center presents a Lecture by Doublespeak artist, Wendy Red Star, titled Crow Style: The Artwork of Wendy Red Star.

Afterwards, at 8 p.m., the Art Center presents First Friday with music by Mr. Jesse Walker along with food and a cash bar to celebrate the opening of Mirko Martin's Noir.

First Fridays are celebrated almost every month at the Art Center. Don’t miss January 6, when Kim Schoenstadt’s interactive work, Paint by Numbers (and Shapes), is revealed and the next Locals Only Gallery opens.

Socks For Seniors

Craft Lake City and SLUG Magazine are collecting NEW socks to donate to the Socks for Seniors program, a non-profit that benefits those living alone and in nursing homes, and even seniors who are homeless.

From now until December 22 we will be taking any pair of NEW socks, from crazy colors to tube socks, to handmade socks! We'll be collecting donations at the SLUG Office:
